Hummer Sale Deal Goes Cold: Is This The End Of The Road?
The Hummer brand has been on the shelf with the “For Sale” board for quite some time. We did come across news of a couple of offers from other manufacturers planning to buy the brand outright. As an icon which went on to be the face of America around the world, (for the wrong reasons at times) the American car enthusiasts aren’t so glad to let go of the war hero.
The last prospective buyer to have come up with a neat deal was the Chinese company Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. The deal was to be wound up at a not-so-impressive $150 million. However, now the deal has gone cold as the Chinese Government has intervened and given it a red light. The reasons for the rejection are unknown.
GM has issued a press release to announce this. It goes on to say, “One year ago, General Motors announced that we were going to divest Hummer, as part of focusing our efforts on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac going forward. We have since considered a number of possibilities for Hummer along the way, and we are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed.”
This event has prompted GM to go back and pull out the old files and refer the previous offers. The automobile major is now trying out the final options left to hand over the brand to the next best buyer so that the legend lives on. However it is highly unlikely and is in fact one miracle which we sincerely wish to see.
