Aston Martin’s 007 fame cars drive into India: Launch Report

The supercar world is full of big, flashy, expensive stuff which tend to make one’s mouth water when the image of that special breed falls on the retina. Same is the case with me which was proven when I attended the launch of the uber cool Aston Martin at the Oberoi Trident Hotel in Mumbai on April 15th , 2011.

I have seen these cars a million time probably at home, on my computer screen but, this was the first time my eyes were to focus on one of the best examples of automotive design and the most stunning looking works of art, designed to make heads turn without trying too much.

The experience was phenomenal. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage S was presented after a brief introduction of the brand and its glorious past. A white Vantage S with its interior upholstered in red leather appeared in front of us. All the versions of the Vantage will be available to the Indian buyers. The list includes, the standard V8 Vantage, V8 Vantage Roadster, Vantage S coupe and roadster and the finally, the V12 Vantage.

Now, Aston’s are associated with one very special person; Secret agent Mr. James Bond. Aston Martin has always been the car of choice for Mr. Bond in all of its past movies. After a clip from the James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, the four-door Rapide was unwrapped before us. The Rapide is priced at Rs 2.15 Cr. in India. However, buyers can customize their car according to their liking which ranges from leathers, interior trims, electronics etc.

There was still one more surprise in store for us at the event and it was one that had the potential to blow the senses of everyone present in the room. The covers came off with the Bond soundtrack- “Diamonds are for ever” going in the background. To everyones surprise it was the Aston Martin One-77. I am afraid, I will have to refrain from writing anything about my first reactions because not doing so might attract a lot of criticism from the more conservative group.

The Aston Martin One-77 was right in front of my eyes. Its a 7.3 litre, ultra-exclusive hypercar with over 700 bhp on tap. Only 77 have been made and almost all have been sold out. Just 5 of the 77 will be available for Indian customers at a stratospheric price tag of Rs 20 Crore plus taxes making it the most expensive car in India.

The Aston Martin range in India will start from Rs 1.5 Cr. Infinity Cars expects the Rapide to be the best seller among all the Aston Martin models. The Rapide, with its price tag of over Rs 2 Cr does offer unmatched luxury coupled with Aston’s awesome V12 powerplant. The new Virage will also be available in the country and so will be the V12 Vantage. The Cygnet small car could also be offered later as it will need homologation. If the Cygnet does arrive in the country, it could be priced around Rs 26 lakh and thus will compete with Volkswagen’s Beetle.

one-77, bond car really made us feel glad. i was not hoping to see this vantage in India. although i am not able to buy it but i welcome Auston Martin for coming to India.But i hope i will be able to buy it someday. Best of luck for your booking.
