German luxury carmaker, Audi has unveiled its upcoming brand new vehicle Concept, which is to be christened the Audi Q8 in its production avatar.
The Audi Q8 Concept, which in its present form is in its early design stages, is going to be the next flagship from the German automaker and the company has unveiled it at the ongoing North American International Auto Show, in Detroit.
The new SUV is being projected to make it to the roads by the year 2019 and be the torch bearer for Audi in its butch SUV portfolio, all of which follow the ‘Q’ nomenclature, based on being equipped with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The Audi Q8 will be based on the company’s MLB platform, which also forms the basis for the present generation of the Audi Q7 and boasts of a highly dynamic chassis and overall lighter construction, along with good structural integrity.
The SUV is going to also sport a coupe’ kind of styling language, wherein the Audi Q8 Concept could be seen getting a rather sporty roof sloping towards the rear of the car. The front gets a predominantly large octagonal chrome lined grille. The headlamps are LED units, with integrated LED DRLs into them.
The side profile tells the actual bulk of the car, with its immense dimensions and large wheels. The C-pillar also gets a rather thick mass which again gives that heaviness to the side. On the inside, the Q8 is expected to offer utmost levels of luxury and space, with just having a four-seat layout inside such a massive cabin.
On the inside, the Audi Q8 Concept features a highly contemporary and minimalist layout for the dashboard and other interior bits. It gets a flat bottomed steering and a wooden finishing for the central console, thus, throwing in a mix of both modern and classier touches.
The Audi Q8 Concept gets a plug-in hybrid powetrain. There is a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol motor, which produces 324 BHP of power and 500 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to an electric motor, to arrive at a total power generation of 426 BHP of power and 700 Nm of peak torque, making the SUV climb from 0-100 kmph in a short 5.40 seconds.
