Paris Motor Show 2010: BMW To Introduce Apple’s iPod, iPhone, iPad Applications Into It’s iDrive Interface
In the beginning of 2011, BMW will introduce Apple’s iPod, iPhone and iPad integrations into it’s iDrive system – an initiative to make cars more user friendly and connecting the outer world. BMW and Paulo Alto, Silicon Valley, California together made the interface to introduce it right into the car’s iDrive application. So it will be very familiar to people using the integration of Apple’s interface inside their cars.
So from now on people driving a BMW will have the same interface in the car’s LCD, as in their iPhone, iPod or iPad. Also they can command it with the iDrive appliance. A driver need to just connect the device with the car and enjoy driving while listening to his / her favorite playlist or while talking to someone.
For those with older iDrive systems, sadly, there will be no upgrade. iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 and the second and third generation iPod Touches will be supported through the system. Also, it supports the iPad – but they call it “Original BMW Accessories – BMW Carrier for Apple iPad Office Mode,” as shown in the pictures below.
