BMW is the ‘Numero Uno’ luxury car brand of India
For a second consecutive time this year BMW rose to the top to be crowned the number one luxury car brand of the country beating fellow German rivals at Audi and Mercedes Benz. Mercedes Benz had held the title for many years but that was before BMW and Audi arrived on Indian shores. Finally, the Bavarians took the fight to Mercedes and successfully snatched the title from them.
BMW India also holds the record for “Highest sales by a manufacturer in the Indian luxury car segment in a year.” With 73% growth in sales in 2010, BMW India achieves over 40% market share of the luxury car segment. BMW India sold 6246 cars in the year 2010 out of which 3-Series and 5-Series were sold in almost equal numbers. The 6-Series was the least favorite as far as sales figures are concerned. However, high end cars like the 7-Series, X6 and Gran Turismo also did quite well with over 500 units of the 7-Series.
Dr. Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India said, “Our commitment to India is amongst the strategic decisions of the BMW Group. In 2010, we embarked on the second wave of India market offensive with a very carefully planned and passionately executed business strategy. I am truly impressed with the entrepreneurial foresight, willingness to perform and adaptability to challenges that everyone at BMW India has demonstrated. Together with our dealer partners, we have established the strategic direction required for BMW Group’s future success in India.”
