January 2011 proved out to be fruitful for General Motors. GM sold 321 units of its plug-in hybrid, Chevrolet Volt in January, whereas Nissan managed to sell only 87 units of the all electric Nissan Leaf. GM has announced to speed up the launch of The Chevy Volt and the hybrid is expected to hit the showrooms nationwide by the end of 2011.Currently, Chevy Volt is available in selected areas.

The Chevy Volt has 16kWh, T-shaped Li-ion battery, which allows it to cover 40 miles. The hybrid throws out 149 horsepower with a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft. The vehicle goes from 0 to 60mph in just 9 seconds and can attain a top speed of 100mph. Chevrolet Volt has an additional power unit of 1.4 litre 4 cylinder producing a power of 84 hp giving an average of 50 miles per gallon (mpg). Chevrolet Volt is available at a price of $ 41,000.
