CNG Prices finally head northwards; Petrol-Diesel prices may follow

Fuel vs Wallet

Fuel vs Wallet

Finally, it has happened. With the administered price mechanism of CNG shooting up by more than a 100%, from INR 3200 in May to INR 6818 per thousand standard cubic metres in June, it was just a matter of time before the Government bit the bullet and hiked CNG prices. As things stand today, Indraprastha Gas Limited(IGL) has hiked the price of CNG in Delhi from INR 21.90 to INR 27.50 per KG.

This 5.6 Rupee hike in CNG prices though steep in percentage terms, still ensures that CNG remains a cheaper and a cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel. With Petrol and Diesel prices likely to go up in the coming days, CNG is set to retain both it’s cost and environment competitiveness. So, if you’re fretting about rising CNG costs, that’s something you might find cheer in. As for the Hoi Polloi, god save them, the government clearly seems incapable.
