German auto major, Daimler AG has signed a technology license agreement with Pune based auto maker, Force Motors. The Indian auto maker will benefit from this deal as it plans to introduce a passenger vehicle soon. The new Force Motors MPV is set to be powered by a Daimler sourced engine. The relationship between Force Motors (erstwhile Bajaj Tempo) and Daimler is not new. Daimler provides the 2.2 litre common-rail engine which powers the Force Motors Traveller mini-bus.

Force Motors is also coming up with a SUV that will also be powered by a Daimler sourced common-rail engine. This is the same engine that goes in the Traveller albeit in a more uprated configuration. The MPV that the company has planned will also be powered by a similar common rail engine sourced from Daimler. Apart from this, the automaker has also trying to source technical assistance from MBtech Powertrain GmbH. Force Motors will tie-up with MBtech in order to source assistance for engine installation, vehicle build quality and electronic refinement.

Force Motors is also in talks with the Madhya Pradesh government to setup a manufacturing facility at Pithampur. The new plant will churn out the new MPV that has been planned by the company. The production of which will commence by the end of 2012. The new manufacturing unit will have a capacity to produce 24,000 units every year however, the company officials did not reveal the investment that the company has planned to make the plant a reality. Also, along with the current line-up of light commercial vehicle that the automaker produces, Force Motors plans to enter the passenger vehicles segment, first with a SUV that is already undergoing final tests and then with an MPV.

Force Motors said, “This comprehensive supply of product technology will facilitate the entry of Force into the passenger and goods vehicles segment, which is adjacent to its current product line of the ‘Traveller’ light commercial vehicle.”

“Force is engaged in a dialogue with the Madhya Pradesh government to locate a new plant for the production of the MPV at Pithampur. The production of this new product is expected to commence towards the end of calender year 2012 with an initial capacity of about 24,000 vehicles per annum.”
