The labour strike at the General Motors plant at Halol in Gujarat has entered its 47th day and now estimates suggest that the automaker has suffered a production loss of 2500 units so far. IndianCarsBikes had earlier reported about the strike at the GM manufacturing facility when 700 workers joined the strike, second in 14 months back then.

Still, 200 workers have not yet reported to work and the employees have confirmed the production loss figures to be between 2000 units and 2500 units. General Motors India Vice-President P Balendran had said on April 15, “We will continue to cooperate with all authorities and work closely with our employees and their union bargaining representatives to find a resolution.”

The state government had even declared the strike illegal. The workers alleged they were facing health hazards and the company has violated PF Act, gratuity norms and rules of Industrial Safety and Health Act and that they were subjected to excess workload. The company has termed the strike illegal. On March 16, the workers were protesting against the transfer of some employees to dealership outlets and opposing a long-term wage settlement agreement signed in December last year.
