Happy Birthday! Ford Figo Turns one
Our beloved Ford Figo has completed its first year in India and what a success it has been. It would be an understatement if I say that Ford was able to rise from the ashes all thanks to the Figo. The Ford Figo hatchback has changed tides for the company thanks to the overwhelming response from customer. Of course, equal credit must be given to the product. The Figo has been an exceptional car and that has resulted in Ford India managing to sell record number of vehicles across India.
To mark one year in production, the company has chalked out plans which have not yet been disclosed. With a milestone achieved, Ford might offer a new version of the Figo in India. Most probable would be a CNG/LPG or an automatic. Either of these will definitely boost sales. With fuel prices skyrocketing, we think a CNG/LPG version makes more sense. Fuel prices are to keep rising in the near future and with the government planning to withdraw subsidies on diesel, prices for the flammable liquid are destined to rise.
Also, we would’ve loved a 1.6 litre Duratec version of the Figo coming out of Ford stables. But this doesn’t seem to be happening. The Figo 1.6 Duratec would be quick no doubt and fun too, but a peppy engine like this would mean a lower fuel economy and this is a big NO-NO in the current senario.
Ford India nearly tripled sales in February, achieving a 188 percent increase from the same time last year, driven by continued strong sales of Figo. Ford sold a total of 9,293 vehicles this February compared to 3,223 in 2010.
