Honda has recalled Honda Jazz models built and sold in Japan, China, Brazil, Thailand, Malaysia and India. This mass recall is to replace a possible switch defect that could cause fire.

The switch in question is a defective master switch could cause water to enter the power window switch and this could, in some cases, cause a fire. So far, there have been three cases of fires due to the defect – two in the United States and one in South Africa.

In September, 2009, two-year-old Vanilla Nurse was killed in Cape Town when the car she was sleeping in caught fire. Therefore, as a preventive measure Honda is recalling 619,000 Jazz, or Fit, models globally and 27,000 City models in Asia.

Incidentally, fellow Japanese car maker Toyota announced the recall of vehicles in the US, Europe and China over concerns about accelerator pedals getting stuck on floor mats. That said, we request India Honda Jazz owners to contact their Honda dealers immediately and get this faulty switch replaced.

As per the latest statement by Honda Siel Cars India, Indian market is not going to be impacted due to this global vehicle recall as the current Honda Jazz being sold in India is a 2nd generation model.

Well this is some respite for all the Honda Jazz Owners in the country !!
