Honda to Setup Its Third Manufacturing Unit in China

Japanese automotive major, Honda Motor Company has announced to setup a new manufacturing unit in the world’s fastest growing automobile market, China.

The new plant will be the third in the country, where it already has two production units and operates as a joint venture unit as Donfeng Honda. The third plant is slated to become operational by the first half of 2019 and is located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development District.

The new plant is being built over an area of 1.2 million square metre and the company has earmarked a sum of Rs. 2,940 crore, which would go into setting up of the manufacturing facility, which will have an annual capacity of 1,20,000 units.

President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of Honda Motor Company, Takahiro Hachigo, said “Honda sales in China is going strong and annual unit sales for 2016 is expected to reach 1.2 million units. The Chinese market has potential for further development and growth.”

“In order to continue meeting such strong demand, Honda will introduce its highly attractive products equipped with leading-edge technologies to the Chinese market ahead of other markets around the world and deliver joys to our customers here in China,” he added.

The third manufacturing facility is all set to hike the cumulative annual production capacity of Donfeng Honda and take it to a total of 6,00,000 cars every year, which makes it take the top spot in Honda’s global production capacities. Honda also runs a plant in China, which is dedicated only to exports and again sees its numbers being in the range of 50,000 units annually.

Honda is also witnessing the sale of its premium models, which include the Accord, Civic, Greiz and the Vezel to be the most selling models in the country, which have become popular due to their overall performance and appealing nature.
