Jaguar is looking for a partner to enter the ever expanding Chinese luxury car market. The Tata Group company is “in negotiations” with a possible partner in China, according to Carl-Peter Forster. Forster however refused to name the Chinese car maker with which the firm was in “good discussions”.

Tata plans to set up a manufacturing unit and a sales network to help Jaguar compete for market share. Speaking to journalists, Carl-Peter Forster said, “the firm believes that there is tremendous potential around the world, but it was not as strong as we should be, most notably in China”. Forster also believes, Jaguar had been “somewhat under-managed” before Tata took ownership of Jaguar Land Rover from Ford.

Foster also mentioned that they are overwhelmed by the interest shown for the Nano, overseas. Although, no export markets have been agreed. “We have a lot of interest, certainly more interest than we can satisfy,” he said.
