Engineering students from K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering launched its latest car ORI 2011 – ‘Aeton’. This is no ordinary car put together from bits and pieces found in the rubbish. In fact, it is a full-on race car which will be the official entry of Orion Racing India at the renowned Formula Student Germany Competition, 2011. Orion Racing India (ORI) is a student team of enthusiastic undergraduate engineers from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering, Mumbai.
This bunch of engineers started the racing team with a vision to apply the knowledge they gain from the educational experience at the college. The students collaborated as a team to design, build and race an open-wheeled formula style race car that competes in the annual Formula SAE competition. Since, the foundation of ORI, the students have created 4 other racing cars and have competed at the annaul Formula Student, Germany.
“A project of this magnitude requires a significant amount of funding and each year students approach a multitude of companies to obtain sponsorship for the project. This year, the ASK Group, a diversified financial services group, has come forward as title sponsors and made a magnanimous contribution towards the project, without which the project would not have been possible” says Rehan Netarwala, a student of K.J. Somaiya College.
