The batlle between the two light weight contenders, Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo, is about to get intense as Mahindra announces its plans of launching a passenger variant on its Maxximo platform. Built to take on the Ace passenger carrier, it will directly compete for a market share in the passenger carrier segment which is currently dominated by Ace. The new variant is under development and will be launched in a year’s time.

“We have made investments of Rs 300 crore in our Chakan plant. This will be utilised for ramping up our facility. That will be sufficient for us.. But we may require to make marginal investments as and when required (for introducing the new variant of the passenger vehicle),” Mahindra and Mahindra Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Rajesh Jejurikar said.

Followed by the launch of the first variant in passenger vehicle category will be another variant on the same platform, probably a lesser capacity variant.
