Mahindra plans to make a South Korean foray in 2012!
Mahindra’s global ambitions seem to be getting bigger by the day and it is heartening indeed for the Indian auto maker exploring markets abroad actively. While it has now acquired South Korean Automaker Sssangyong and plans to launch the Korando C and the Rexton SUVs in India later this year, Mahindra also plans to enter the South Korean market with it’s own products next year.
While what exactly Mahindra would launch in South Korea remains unknown at the moment, the UV major is in the process of doing a market survey to finalize what product it needs to launch in South Korea. With the Mahindra W201 World SUV just around the corner, Mahindra might have plenty of choices to make it’s entry into the Korean car market.
Mahindra’s other international foray, which has been making the news for all the wrong reasons has been it’s American sojourn, which has run into some major trouble with lawsuits brewing against the automaker by annoyed prospective American Mahindra dealers. This, even as Mahindra and Global Motors Inc sit at the negotiating table later this year as the arbitration procedure is expected to kick in.
Let us hope that Mahindra’s South Korean foray goes smoothly as the automaker clearly cannot afford another mess up. Meanwhile, here’s Mr Pawan Goenka, M&M president, automotive and farm equipment sector talking about Mahindra’s South Korean plans.
We will look forward to take the Mahindra product in Korea. We have not finalised the matter yet when this will happen. It may be sometime next year. Before we introduce Mahindra products in Korea, we need to do a market research. Probably, we will pick up one or two from our existing products to see the potentiality there.
