McLaren to bring new models once a year
We had to wait for almost two decades before McLaren could bring us a new road car. The McLaren F1 was put in to production in 1992 and now almost 18 years later the Britich automaker has come up with an all new bespoke McLaren supercar, the MP4-12C. The company that has been active in Formula 1 for decades now seems to be wanting to provide the general public a taste of their engineering prowess.
Antony Sheriff, managing director at McLaren has announced that new models will be coming out of the Woking factory every year. Now, it takes years of research and development to come up with supercar like the MP4-12C and hence the new models could just be variants of the MP4-12C. So we could expect a convertible version of the McLaren supercar in the near future.
The McLaren exec went on to say, “Between the various models (under development), we’ll have something new about once a year.” While Sheriff did not go into too much detail as to what exactly constitutes “something new,” he did clarify that the automaker would “stick to building two-seat sports car” that were based on Formula One technology.
Further, the MP4-12C could get a hybrid powertrain in the future. A hybrid engined McLaren could be the very first “new model” to come and seems the most likely option before, let say, a convertible. We might have to wait for the MP4-12C to drop its top or may be a superleggera version of the McLaren supercar. All said, the company will be coming out with different models and they will tickle your sense for sure.
