The very first, true hypercar was indeed the McLaren F1. A car that could reach a top speed of 240mph and cost £1 million. It was a car that proved the technological genius of the human species. For decades, no road car ever managed to come even close to the bar set by the F1. Until recently, when Bugatti Veyron sailed passed the F1′s 240mph top speed to reach 253mph (407kmph) and thus became the only production road car to pass the 400kmph mark.

It was expected that McLaren would unveil the new F1 in the coming decade as the boffins at Woking were busy developing the MP4-12C. However, an early launch of the revolutionary McLaren F1 looks imminent. As a matter of fact the F1 will be mid-engined and will feature a carbonfibre monocoque like the MC4-12C. Details about the powertrain are not yet known. No word has been received from McLaren about the central driving seat, whether it will make it into the new version. Unlike the MP4-12C the F1 is definitely going to have radical styling giving it a distinctive look. The new F1 will cost more than the MP4-12C but won’t be a limited edition like the earlier F1.
