Mercedes-AMG to takeover DUCATI?
Ducati Diavel and Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG at LA Auto Show
Mercedes Benz and Ducati of Italy announced a marketing tie-up between the two auto giants. According to Mercedes-AMG, most of their customers also own Ducati bikes and this has been the specific reason for this tie-up. Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG and the Ducati Diavel shared the same stage at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
According to insiders, the current collaboration between Mercedes and Ducati might result in a full takeover of the Italian motorcycle giant by Mercedes-AMG. This move won’t come in the next couple of years while the tie-up “takes its first baby steps”, according to one senior source.
Officially, AMG and Ducati will only say that they are “currently examining further activities and strategic steps they might undertake together in the near future”.
Currently, Ducati is owned by the investment arm of an Italian family and sold around 35,000 motorcycles last year. The initial tie-up plans will see the two companies “developing common marketing activities” . AMG will also sponsor the Ducati MotoGP team.
