Microsoft Hohm Application Will Manage Ford’s electric Cars

Yes, you read it right and its not odd, days are not far when your cars would be manged remotely by some service like Microsoft`s Hohm. Microsoft Hohm is a year-old Internet service helping consumers monitor all kinds of home energy usage.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally announced the partnership on Wednesday at the opening day of the New York International Auto Show. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer spoke in the press conference via video feed  ”For Ford,” Mulally said, “this is a needed step in the development of the infrastructure that will make electric vehicles viable.”

Hohm will allow consumers to check the battery levels in their cars, and know when the best time would be to recharge them.In 2011 when Ford`s first all electric car the Ford Focus Electric will be delivered to customers the recharging system will be remotely managed by Microsoft.

They also unveiled the “Microsoft Hohm” system during the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday. It will be further implemented in the five Ford electric vehicles due out by 2013.

“The demand placed on the energy grid will be momentous,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said.

“Addressing the challenge of how that demand is managed in a smart and affordable way is absolutely going to be critical. And information technology will be an essential part of supporting the energy ecosystem.” he added.
