I’m all for the upcoming electric cars storm that’s about to hit India’s car market. While Tata and Mahindra have been busy developing electric versions of their mainstream products, chances are Tesla is also about to chart out a plan for its launch in India. However, ahead of its launch, someone in India (we’re pretty sure he’s someone too well-heeled and a prominent personality) has decided to import a Model X SUV from Tesla in India. With this, the Model X becomes the first Tesla car in India.
The Tesla Model X that has become the first Tesla car in India comes from the US. It is produced at the company’s Fremont facility. The Model X, at first glance, looks a lot like a beefed up Model S. It can carry as many as 7 passengers and offers supercar-rivaling performance. Even the hardware is shared with the Model S. It gets a set of two motors at each axle. The motor at the front wheel is rated at 259 PS and the motor at the rear wheels outputs 503 PS. The torque output is rated at a whopping 967 Nm. The P75D, which is the entry-level variant, can hit 96 kmph from standstill in just 4.8 seconds while the P100D can do the same sprint in 2.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The Model X is available in a price range of $73,800 to $128,300. Considering that this one’s a direct import from the US, we are pretty sure that it would have cost the customer up to Rs 2 crore.
