2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster wins “Best in Show”

The rules for picking Best in Show at Pebble Beach are simple. The car needs to be convertible with European coachwork, more than 60 years old, very rare, fast, and gray, blue or black. And it needs to be restored to within an inch of its million-dollar life. The marquees are featured too, say for this time Jaguar, Alfa Romeo and Piece Arrow. So, you can bring a Ferrari there.

The year’s winner was Jim Patterson’s 1933 Delage D8S Roadster with De Villars coachwork. It was restored by RM’s Auto Restoration. “A white car has never won at Pebble Beach,” Patterson said. Patterson’s car — always in white, except for a brief period when a misguided owner painted it red.
Patterson acquired the car at the 2007 RM Auctions in Pebble Beach and paid $3.74 million for it. The 61st annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next year will feature, marquees as Mercedes-Benz, Stutz, a celebration of the Ferrari 250 and Italian motorcycles.
