Porsche is all set to unveil a brand new chapter of its iconic 911 at next years Frankfurt Motor show. The new 911 will go on sale in the UK in 2011.

Codenamed the 991, the new incarnation gets fresh exterior styling, a higher-quality interior, more powerful yet highly fuel-efficient six-cylinder boxer engines, sharpened dynamics and a greater list of high-end options.

Porsche will be re-shuffling its model line-up in the near future as a new entry-level model is to be introduced. This will be developed in partnership with Volkswagen.

The new car retains its classic rear-engined layout albeit with a few modifications to the engine mounting points for better weight distribution. Macpherson struts at the front and a reworked multi-link setup complete the suspension package while steering is electro-mechanical.

Body is constructed from steel, aluminium and plastic composites which keep the weight down. The biggest change to the exterior is the introduction of wider wings which can house 20 inch rims. The cabriolet version will come to the UK in 2012.

The new 911 Carrera will be powered by a 3.6lt, 365bhp engine producing 295lb ft of torque while the Carrera S will get a revised 3.8lt, 415bhp with 325lb ft.

Both versions will get a six- speed manual with an option of the seven- speed PDK with paddle shifters. Other features include automatic start-stop and brake energy recuperation system. The Carerra S gets an electronic differential as standard while the Carerra 4S comes with electronic torque vectoring and other driving aids.
