Skoda India might launch a new car codenamed SK215, based on a modified Fabia platform, towards the end of 2011. The Skoda SK215 will be powered by a 1.6 ltr TDCR diesel engine from Volkswagen and a 1.6 ltr petrol engine and is expected to be priced around 8 to 10 lacs. Skoda is bringing the car in the saloon form of body building style, but may also introduce the estate version called internationally as Combi.

Mr Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, Skoda India, said that in the coming years, Skoda will be back on the front row with strategic planning in order to gain some market share in India. The main competitor of the SK215 will be the Honda City, Fiat Linea, VW Vento & Ford Fiesta.

Skoda is currently owned by Volkswagen Group of Germany. After launching the Fabia facelift, Skoda is now going to launch it’s funky SUV Yeti later this year. The Czech manufacturer currently sells Fabia hatchback, Octavia, Laura and the Superb in India.
