Finally, Ferrari will reveal the convertible version of the 599 Gran tourer at this years Paris motor show, SA APERTA. Only 80 will be ever made and they are all sold, that’s the bad news. Ferrari had brought the car to this years Pebble Beach Concours in California.

Priced upwards of €400,000, is certainly not cheap. Unlike the Ferrari 575M Superamerica, the SA APERTA gets a folding soft top, which according to Ferrari is “a light soft top designed to be resorted to only if the weather gets particularly bad”.

The new model is designed as a tribute to styling house Pininfarina, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. The S and A in the car’s name stand for Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina.

Powered by a 6.0lt V12, which produces 661bhp puts it desperately close on power to the 599 GTO. Despite the loss of the roof, the SA APERTA has “a standard of stiffness comparable to that of a closed berlinetta”, and that there is “a negligible weight difference” after the work on the chassis structure. The wind screen is low slung and the ride height has also been lowered while the trademark 599 fins on the rear quarter panels have been integrated into the rollover hoops.
