Tata Motors’ engineers are burning midnight oil to prepare for next month’s mega event. Company has long list of updated cars which will be showcased during the expo. In past few days, we have seen numerous spy shots of Vista Tech, Falcon 4 and new Sumo Grande, which could be named as Movus. The Falcon 5, an all new compact sedan from the company was still hiding out in the wild. But now for the very first time, Manza CS shows up its face carrying illusionistic stickers all around. This confirms that company is working hard, to meet the timelines, as this car is going to be the biggest launch from company on the stage of India Expo Mart.
Compact sedan segments or in other words segment of sedan which costs less than 5 lakhs caters to wide consumer base in India. Tata Motors came up with this unique idea, to take the benefits of excise duty exemption and price the sedan very close to price of a hatchback. This idea helped sedans to maintain their market share, when everyone is going mad about SUVs. As customers accepted this compact sedan concept very well, other manufacturers joined this bandwagon too. Later, this concept crippled into utility vehicle segment and outcome is many compact UVs running our roads like Mahindra Quanto, Ford EcoSport etc. But with time, Tata Motors’ very own Indigo eCS got lost somewhere in the crowd of new age compact cars. Company tried several times to pump back life into Indigo eCS, out of which recent attempt was noticeable and exhaustive. Still it resulted in consistent dismal sales figures of car. Hence, now company is preparing Manza’s compact version to regain the lost crown of territory which company has created on their own.
The front end design is not new to us now, as we have seen similar face on Falcon 4 test mules. Headlamp unit has three barrel layout similar to present Manza but the grill has been changed. The variant, which is caught in picture, looks to be a top or second level variant, as it has alloys similar to that on Manza top end variant. But surprisingly it doesn’t have projector head lamps and also newly designed rear view mirror color too does not match with body color. Most interesting part of the car is its tail section, as it will carry the most significant change. As off now the tail section is unfinished and doesn’t have lights in place but it surely shows the wrap around type outer profile of it. Rest the car is expected to retain the spacious feel of original Manza. The Manza has one of the largest boot available in its segment and chopping it off will hopefully retain enough space for your luggage, much better than what competition offers. Overall space will be the trump card for this new compact sedan from Tata.
Today only, Tata Motors have taken the wraps off from its all-new 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine named Revotron. This engine is designed to do the duty on Falcon 4, Falcon 5 and future Tata cars. Company is also developing the new gearbox, which will be mated with this engine. Power output has been kept limited to 85 hp, so as to extract the maximum efficiency. Company might have opted for this because they have realized the fact that, with rising prices of diesel, people’s interests might shift back to petrol motors soon. We recently covered the details of the new Revotron engine here. Diesel motor, on this car, is expected to be none other than Fiat sourced 1.3 liter Multijet diesel. Sub four meter car segment has already become too much price competitive and it is very hard for any manufacture to launch new car in this space. Let’s hope that Tata Motors manages to offer Manza CS at cut throat price and shatter the dominance of established segment leaders.
