Nano Car to go overseas: Tata to sell Nano in Asia & Latin America
Mr.Ratan Tata with the Nano
Tata Motors, the makers of the world’s cheapest car, now plans to sell their $2500 micro hatch overseas. This was stated by Chairman, Mr. Ratan Tata.
The company plans to sell the world’s cheapest car in countries in Africa, Latin America and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Ratan Tata said at the company’s annual general meeting today.
Ratan Tata, who urged the company to think “out of the box,” to sell more Nanos, said the company may also offer a diesel version and a bigger three-cylinder petrol engine and consider variants that run on alternative fuels like compressed natural gas.
Earlier this year, the company opened a dedicated plant in June to build the Nano in Sanand, Gujarat, with capacity to make 250,000 cars a year. Tata Motors has sold more than 50,000 Nanos since the company began deliveries of the car in July 2009.
