Records tumble at TopGear Season 16 opener

“Tonight, a dog won’t get in a car, a flip chart falls over and a man from Liverpool drives a car”. TopGear’s first installment of the 16th season was on, this Sunday and what a brilliant way to kick off the series. Both lap boards had a new face at the top. John Bishop was in the Kia Cee’d this week and he kicked Mr. Cruise’s arse (this is almost what John Bishop said when he was told his time of 1min 42.8 ) who headed the leader board from last series.

Captain Slow on the other hand drove the Ariel V8 superfly. A car without a single creature comfort apart from a 5×5 sheet of perspex that helps you not look like a fat, balding alien. The Ariel Atom V8, thanks to its 500 bhp blitzed the Dunsfold circuit this time, to kick Mr. Bugatti Veyron SS’s arse. Epic car!

Richard had a point to prove this week, that the Porsche 911 is the best drivers car around and that it isn’t just a jumped up Volkswagen Beetle. Hammond had to travel to Africa to prove this and unfortunately failed miserably. In a dramatic drag race between a VW Beetle and a Porsche 911 Turbo S convertible (driven by Richard Hammond), the humble 50 bhp people’s car won leaving Hammond looking like an idiot. The Beetle didn’t survive to celebrate victory though.

Finally, it was Jeremy who did an ultra sensible road test of a serious Skoda Yeti, which was weird. We loved the review of the car and jokes apart, it seems to be quite a good car.

The guys will be back next week with more uber exciting stuff. Keep watching this space for more TopGear updates.
