Toyota introduces 5 year Warranty in the U.K.
After loads of recalls (how many times are we going to write about this ), loads of public apologies, lawsuits, paying damages to NHTSA and the public and their image taking a beating and with certain people saying that they have moved away from ‘the Toyota way’, Toyota is back with ways to lure the motorist.
In India, Toyota is still in a luxury segment, and will be for a while. Irrespective of what happens the world over, Toyota hasn’t taken so much of a beating here and if anything, has grown stronger. Even in Britain, Toyota stays on top despite the troubles it faces in the colonies. As part of a survey conducted in the U.K, Toyota has reinforced its position as one of Britain’s top manufacturers when it comes to making cars that are big on quality, owner appeal and value for money. The results of this year’s J.D. Power and Associates/What Car? Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study (VOSS), which shows Toyota maintaining its fifth place ranking from last year, but with an index score up by nine points.

The Aygo and Yaris, which respectively achieved the top ranking in the VOSS City Car and Small Car (Yaris equal top ranked) categories, while the full hybrid Prius was second ranked in the Upper Medium Car category. No news with regard to the Camry and Corolla, the stirrers of the whole controversy across the Atlantic. Overall Toyota was unmatched by any other manufacturer in the Ownership Costs section of the survey, which covers issues such as fuel consumption, insurance and the cost of servicing and repairs.
Toyota has then gone on to state that they are committed to delivering quality, reliability, durability and owner-appeal in all its models, supported by competitive low running costs. These fundamental qualities are backed up by first class customer care right across the sales and service network. In tune to keeping up with this statement and promise, extended cover will be provided as standard on all new Toyota cars purchased in the UK from June 1. Its introduction follows on from the success of Toyota’s Your Choice, Our Promise campaign over the spring. It offered customers the choice of an extended warranty or three years’ free servicing on their new car. ”Our new five-year warranty is tangible evidence of our commitment to quality and to our customers,” said Miguel Fonseca, Toyota GB managing director. ”By taking this major initiative we are giving our customers complete peace of mind. We want to reassure them that, in choosing a Toyota, they are getting the best in quality, reliability and durability.”
The new five-year/100,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty builds on the established three-year/60,000-mile warranty. While this is good for people thinking of starting off with a Toyota in the U.K, our Indian readers make note of this. As of now, Toyota has the same policy as it did in Britain, 3 year or 100.000Km Warranty (whichever is earlier). Will they hike it to 5 years /160,000 km here as well or is it going to be status quo. And if it’s going to be status quo, we wouldn’t mind knowing why it is so.
