Recall Effect: Toyota gets fined 16.4 Million USD

After months of investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) has finally pronounced Toyota guilty of not taking enough measures to solve the sticky accelerator issue, even though Toyota knew about it.

In the American automotive history, this is by far the largest ever fine meted out by the NHTSA to any car manufacturer. More than its magnitude, the fine crucially exposes Toyota’s blatant lying about the sticky gas pedals.

This, will certainly do a lot of harm for the Toyota brand as the latest revelations are bound to add fuel to the consumer outrage for all the deaths caused by Toyota cars’ faulty accelerator pedals. Toyota can appeal this fine by the 19th of April, 2010. In our opinion, if really guilty, Toyota should be fined a lot more than just $16.4 million as the loss to human life is something that cannot be accounted for with something as inanimate as money.

A higher fine, one whose effect is crippling in the short term, will set a precedent and force manufacturers to be more cautious while designing and selling cars.

This is a slap on the wrist. Can’t you see that this bad press is hurting our American industry. Please don’t buy in to this Toyota smear campaign. They have provided us better products when the Big Three didn’t care. Check out XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX they get the story right.
