Toyota recalls over 400,000 more cars
2004 Toyota Avalon
The news of three recent accidents involving their cars, Toyota was prompted, yet again to recall 412,000 passenger cars in the US. The recall involves mostly the Avalon model for certain steering issues.
A total of 373,000 Avalons manufactured between the year 2000 and 2004 have been detected with improper casting of the steering lock bar, a component for the steering system causing cracks to develop on the surface. As a result, the lock bar may break in certain cases and cause the steering wheel to lock.
In addition to this 39,000 Lexus LX470′s (2003-2007 model years) have been recalled because of steering shaft problems unlike the Avalons.
Since October, Toyota has recalled a total of 8.5 million vehicles around the world for a number of problems including defective gas pedals and even faulty floor mats. Toyota has already been slapped with $16.4 million fine. However, recall voes still seem to haunt the worlds no.1 car maker.
