German carmaker, Volkswagen could well be working earnestly towards bringing in its latest product in the SUV space to India, the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The new Tiguan, which is the second generation of the SUV, was earlier showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and as per media reports, the company could be launching the SUV in India by May, 2017.
The Volkswagen Tiguan, even though being a highly premium product, bears compact proportions, which make it quite suitable for usage in today’s times. The SUV is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform and will be the first vehicle being from the manufacturer’s stable to boast this and to be launched in the Indian market.
The second generation of the Tiguan is approximately 50 kilograms lighter than its previous generation model, however, the SUV still carries a lot of muscle and fair to stand true to the SUV tag. It gets an imposing front end, with twin-slat chrome grille, which will be flanked by LED headlamp clusters on either end. The side profile is also very clean, with the dimensions coming across as quite compact. The rear of the SUV again sees the use of LED tail lamps, which give a very contemporary look to the overall package.
On the inside, the SUV will be loaded to the gills with modern features and technology, some of which being a 5-inch touch-screen infotainment system, which would support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Tiguan will come powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel motor, which will produce 148 BHP of power and 340 NM of peak torque. Apart from this, the other engine on offer would be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TSI unit, which would be good for producing 177 BHP of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. Both engines will come with options of either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
