Volvo India Remains Unaffected By Geely deal
Indian concerns over the Geely-Volvo deal have been laid to rest by Volvo Auto India Managing Director Paul de Voijs.
In an interview with PTI, he said, “After what happened yesterday, Volvo will continue to be an independent division of Geely, headquartered in Sweden. We will directly report to Volvo in Sweden.”
Volvo also clarified that the Chinese conglomerate are not planning to enter the Indian market through Volvo franchises.
Volvo Auto India had made its operations independent of Ford last October and the wholly-owned subsidiary was renamed as Volvo Auto India Pvt Ltd. Volvo decided on its own about its India entry in 2007, followed by launch of its models and expansion business.
Paul de Voijs continued, “We will continue with our own plans that have been announced earlier, which includes new products and network expansion.”
This year, Volvo plans to introduce the XC60 SUV and the S60 sedan to the Indian market. Volvo Auto India, at present, sells two models in the country — sedan S80 priced at INR 38-44 lakh and crossover XC90 with a price range of Rs 42.50-48.50 lakh.
Both the cars are available in petrol and diesel variants and the company imports them from its plants at Sweden and Belgium.
