Volkswagen India to launch new Tiguan in first week of May

Volkswagen India has confirmed that it will launch its compact SUV the VW Tiguan in the first week of may 2017. 

Earlier showcased at Auto Expo 2016, the VW Tiguan is now in its second form and arriving in India for the first time. The compact SUV is based on the Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform and will debut the platform for the Volkswagen brand in India for the first time. VW Tiguan measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, 2,095 mm in height, and with the wheelbase of 2,677 mm. The 5-seater compact SUV has 615 liters of luggage space which can be increased to 1,655 liters with the rear seats down.

Volkswagen India has confirmed that it will offer the VW Tiguan with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine at first. This engine is capable of producing a power of 177 BHP and giving peak torque of 350 Nm, and the power will be delivered to the wheels with the help of a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and will be distributed among them via the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

The VW Tiguan is assembled locally at the VW’s Aurangabad factory in Maharashtra.

The Tiguan is imported from Wolfsburg, Germany and assembled locally at the Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra which started recently in mid-March 2017. The VW Tiguan gives a competition to the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass segment-wise, but it is still expected to price a little higher at around INR 25-30 lakh
