Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India has seen an increase in demand for the Honda CB Unicorn bike in recent times and you are planning to get yourself one of these 150 cc bikes then, I’m afraid you will have to wait for 6 months for your CB Unicorn to arrive. Honda has increased the the waiting period for its flagship model to six months as a result of the huge demand. The waiting period has been increased thanks to what a Honda official termed as “unprecedented demand”.
Recently, the Honda Activa has also seen long waiting periods. In some parts of India the wait for a Honda Activa crept over five months while in others, customers had to wait for atleast four months for their scooter depending upon the colour. Honda is trying to address this issue by increasing production at their Gurgaon plant. The Gurgaon facility has a capacity of 16 lakh units per annum. HMSI recently inaugurated a new facility at Tapukara in Rajasthan with an annual capacity of 12 lakh. The company would invest over Rs 800 crore at the plant that is supposed to reduce the waiting periods.
Honda upgraded the Unicorn with a BSIII compliant engine and renamed it the CB Unicorn. The other Unicorn in the Honda range of bikes, the CB Unicorn Dazzler also comes with a waiting period of three to four months. The Unicorn competes with other 150 cc bikes like the Pulsar from Bajaj Auto and Apache from TVS Motor Comp. The four-wheeler market has seen a slump in demand in the past couple of months but same hasn’t been true for the two-wheeler market. Demand for bikes has increased in fact, in the month of June, Honda saw a 5.89 percent jump on sales compared to the same period last year.
