Volkswagen Golf is the world’s largest selling compact car in 2011; The Maruti Suzuki Alto tops sales charts in India!
The Volkswagen Golf has been a best seller for many years now and the car continues it reign at the top in 2011, with a whopping 484,547 units sold in 2011. Though thus number is fewer than what the Golf sold in 2010, it is still enough for the German hacthback to rule the roost at hustings across the world. Second place too was bagged by another Volkswagen, with the Polo selling very strongly with 356,490 cars sold in 2011. The Volkswagen Polo also sells in India, though a small but significant speck of the global figure, contributing to over 15% of the total global sales.

Year 2011 may not go down in the history books as one of the best years for the Indian auto industry however, it did bring some cheer to the average auto enthusiasts and small car buyers. We saw a couple of new small cars being launched in a period that hasn’t been quite conducive for the petrol powered car. Petrol prices sky-rocketed over the year that’s gone by leaving the average middle class consumer now other way but to switch to diesel cars. The market for diesel cars grew exponentially in 2011.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K-Series Spotted at the IIMS 2010

Suzuki motors has put on display their latest Indian offering the Alto K-Series at the IIMS 2010 Indonesia. The car has already created a buzz in the Indian auto blogosphere with its spy pics and leaked brochure image. It is expected to go on sale sometime next month in the Indian market.
Company is displaying the car at the show as a prospective launch in the Indonesian market. It is reported to have the same 1.0L engine mated to a CVT transmission for Indonesia while the Indian version will get a 5-speed manual transmission.
