Come 2011, BMW will make a massive push into the Hybrid Space

Today’s BMW AGM at Munich was a path breaking one. For, BMW announced a few plans that presents a radical glimpse of what all future cars may feature. Addressing shareholders at the Munich AGM, here’s what BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer had to say.

“As early as next year, the new BMW 5 Series will also be available as a full hybrid. And we are anticipating the hybridisation of further models series, such as the BMW 3 Series.”

Now that BMW has laid down the gauntlet, it is only natural that other car manufacturers too will have their own hybrid plans in the offing. Expect similar statements from Mercedes Benz and Audi soon.

Going by BMW’s approach of simultaneously launching it’s global models in India, expect the BMW 5 Series Hybrid to see an Indian launch right on the back of it’s global launch.
