Google Maps “Bike There”: Now get directions on your bike

Google Bike Maps

Another big step to reach out to people, Internet giant Google has added another overlay to its map service – Google Bike Maps.

Now, you can get directions while traveling on a bike or bicycle. It even shows you the elevations so that you do not have to travel unnecessary.

The idea is to help cyclists plan bike routes that “avoid big hills” and other terrain unkind to two-wheeled travel, the company said.

The leap is also part of the company’s plan to dig more users for Google Maps so as to show them advertisements from local business. Today when users search for places on Google Maps, such as coffee shops and restaurants, they see location balloons on the maps.

But according to the New York Post, “A helmet may not be enough to protect cyclists from Google Maps’ latest feature.”

The reporters who endeavored the service noted several instances where Google sent them on the wrong route though safer routes were available. A Google spokesperson admitted to the newspaper that the maps are not perfect and said the company, is working to improve its knowledge of Gotham.

Though there are flaws in the service now but Google have always been known for its simplicity and its diverse ways to reach out people. Bike maps is one of them. It has been launched in US for now but eventually it will be launched in the rest part of the world.
