Over 2 Crore Rupees; That is what Maybach lost on each car it sold!
Mercedes Benz has pulled the plug on the super luxury marquee, Maybach, a couple of months ago and here’s why they did it. Mercedes Benz, estimated-ly has lost around $440,000 on each Maybach it has been selling over the last few years. And, this is one major reason why Mercedes Benz has stopped continuing the loss making Maybach brand. 2013 will be the last year for the Maybach brand, soon after which its replacement will step in. Mercedes Benz sold only a few hundred cars of the Maybach every year, a far cry from the targeted 2000 units per year.
Since then, other luxury marquees like Bentley and Rolls Royce are trying to lure away prospective Maybach customers. Incidentally, the Maybach ultra luxury saloon has been selling in India from 2004. In 2013, Mercedes Benz will come up with an all new S-class range of luxury saloons and the S600 Pullman saloon is expected to be the replacement for the Maybach. For the Indian market too, the 2012 Mercedes Benz S600 saloon is expected to be the replacement for the In India, like most other markets of the world, the Maybach range of luxury saloons have been slow sellers.
While Rolls Royces and Bentleys are selling in ever increasing numbers in India, it is tough to spot many Maybachs in the country. The Maybach luxury saloon sells for close to a whopping 5 crores of 1 Million US dollars in the Indian market. Previously, there was some talk about Mercedes Benz tying up with Aston Martin to build the new range of Maybachs, an arrangement which now stands cancelled as Mercedes Benz has decided to kill the Maybach once and for all.
