2010 Geneva Motor Show: Peugeot SR 1 Concept Car
Carmakers make concept cars or show cars as a way of telling people, “lookie here! We can do this, but we couldn’t be bothered”. And international motor shows fuel this attitude by generating enough buzz about fancy concept cars.
A famed car maker from the land of the cheese-eating surrender monkeys going by the name Peugeot, have released renderings of the SR1, a new 2+1 concept which showcases the stylistic design direction of the brand’s future models.
The hardtop convertible concept car is said to embody the new world of Peugeot, reflected by the new Lion badge which adorns its sculpted hood. Designed to explore and reinterpret the ‘GT car’ theme, with a long, sculpted hood, flowing body panels made of carbon and a very low center of gravity, the aesthetic traits of the SR1 are claimed to renew Peugeot’s strong stylistic identity and create a new design language.
The three-seat interior promotes the idea of contrast. While the driver’s seat and controls are driver focused, the passenger compartment is designed to provide versatility for occupants. The third rear seat nestles in the middle, behind the two front seats, with entry facilitated by the center console, which can slide forward to improve access. Patinated leather and different grained wood are examples of the use of authentic and natural materials, which blend seamlessly with high tech materials such as nickel and satin-finished chrome.
Looks nice then, this. But it’s left to see how many of the three seats make it viable enough for production.
