2010 facelifted WagonR to debut in April at INR 3.3 Lakhs

What the 2010 Maruti Suzuki WagonR will look like is old news, but what isn’t all that old is the fact that Maruti has decided to plonk in the A-Star’s 1 liter 3 pot petrol engine into the WagonR’s engine bay. All this, in a move to give the decent selling WagonR a fighting chance at the hustings where newer and better looking cars that are eating away at the still considerable monthly sales figures of the WagonR.

If the ticker on today’s CNBC TV18 is to be believed, the new WagonR will be priced at an ultra competitive INR 3.3 Lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

What we like is the fact that the WagonR will get a lighter more efficient engine in the 1 liter K Series unit, but we are also a little apprehensive about the WagonR’s looks vis a vis it’s price range. This, because the very attractive price point casts doubts of whether Maruti will launch the nicer looking 2009 Japanese version of the WagonR or choose to just give a very minor facelift to the existing version of the Indian WagonR.

We are hinging on the latter as the price point seems to indicate just that. Meanwhile, we’ll find that out sometime in April, when Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2010 WagonR in India.
