Will the 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan come with an automatic transmission? This is one question that has continually been shot at Ford India officials ever since the Ford Fiesta Sedan was unveiled at Delhi, earlier this year. The answer to this question is a resounding yes but wait, if you’re interested in the long conversation Team ICB had with senior Ford official closely associated with new product development, you should read on.

Now, that the 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan will get an automatic transmission, the question of when exactly that will happen is another big question that most folks will have on their mind. Team ICB posed this very question to the Ford official, who has been very closely associated with the development of the twin clutch Automatic gearbox that the 2011 Fiesta features internationally.

The Ford official, while declining to give us a time frame on when the auto box would make an appearance, said that plans definitely exist to outfit the 2011 Fiesta with an auto box. The question now shifted to whether the 2011 Fiesta Sedan will get a conventional automatic gearbox or will the dual clutch 6 speed gearbox make an appearance.

The 2011 Fiesta Sedan, will in all probability arrive with the 6 speed automatic gearbox as and when Ford India decides to launch the Fiesta Automatic. So, that is some real good news there. We also quizzed the Ford official about what to expect with the dual clutch six speeder auto box.

To that, the official said that the dual clutch automatic gearbox makes a lot of sense for India than conventional automatics as the new mapping technology employed by the dual clutch auto box allows for a very wide range of ratios to be mapped into the gearbox, thus allowing Ford to tune the gearbox for razor sharp responsiveness or outright fuel economy.

Since fuel economy is the major bane of older automatic gearboxes, the dual clutch six speeder is what will be ideal for India, where fuel economy is accorded a very high priority. We also asked the Ford official about whether the diesel engined Fiesta would get the dual clutch automatic gearbox, a-la-Hyundai Verna Fluidic.

To this question, we got a reply that wasn’t too much in favor of the diesel engined Fiesta getting an automatic gearbox as that could results in costs getting too high, which could make the diesel engined 2011 Fiesta Sedan a tough car to sell. So, the dual clutch six speed automatic gearbox will indeed be offered on the Ford Fiesta Sedan, at a later date, the details of which remain unknown at the moment.

They should come out wt a diesel automatic car

i would def buy one
cause diesel is cheaper and more mileage means the add costs would b ok
plus better resale value
or i might buy the verna instead
