It seems to be raining MPVs this season in India. Just yesterday, we brought you the story about Nissan and Ashok Leyland joining hands to produce the NV200 and today, there is another MPV that deserves more than a passing mention.
Hyundai India is bullish on their Indian operations and the MPV segment is one slice of the market they aren’t in. To make amends, 2011 is when Hyundai India will drive in it’s Starex MPV a.k.a H1 onto Indian shores.
This large MPV which is available in two variants, the short wheelbase and the long wheelbase, will take on the Tata Winger and the Nissan-Ashok Leyland NV200. The short wheelbase version can seat 7-9 people while the longer wheelbase version can play home to 9-12 people. This is some serious seating capacity and the icing on the cake is the fact that the Starex can also double up as a cargo van. Engine options include a range of petrols and a common rail diesel options and at the moment we have no clue as to which engine Hyundai India will plonk into the Starex’s engine bay.
Expect the Hyundai Starex to be priced between INR 8-10 Lakhs when it is launched sometime in 2011.
