2011 Maybach Guard offers yacht like luxury dressed in ballistic armour
One of the ultimate examples of bespoke high-end luxury cars, second only to the Rolls Royce Phantom is of course the Maybach. The Maybach Guard is a specially prepared bulletproof limousine built intended for dignitaries, royals and VIP’s. The 2011 model of the Guard has just been revealed and the longer wheelbase version, 62, will sport a price tag upwards of INR 5 Crore.
From outside, the limousine looks similar to what the Maybach has been for the last decade apart from some discreet revisions. Maybach however insist that they had to build the car from ground up to accommodate the heavy armor. Surprisingly, even with the extra bulk, the car did not require suspension or drivetrain upgrades. The Maybach Guard 62′s twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-12 accelerated the car upto 155 mph and does 62 mph from standstill in 5.7 sec.
The Kevlar-steel composite armor used in the Maybach tips the scale up to almost 3.2 tonnes and is rated to the B4 level. This means the car is capable of stopping a 0.44 calibre round. Other features previously optional on Guard models included a protected fuel tank, run-flat tires, and an exterior intercom system.
