Rumblings of a diesel version of the bestselling Toyota Corolla Altis are getting louder by the day and along the way we chanced upon the European version of the 2010 Toyota Corolla Altis.

With the Honda Civic expected to go under the cosmetic surgeon’s scalpel before 2011, we think Toyota Kirloskar Motors could give the Toyota Corolla Altis a midlife makeover even as they shoehorn a diesel heart into the Toyota Corolla Altis’s engine bay.

The cosmetic changes could include a refreshed front grille, new front and rear bumpers, nicer looking 5 spoke alloys and a newer looking tail lamps.

Coming to the heart of the matter, the engine, the Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel could get a 1.4 Liter common rail mill that is currently doing duty in the Toyota Yaris. This 1.4 liter turbodiesel produces about 90-100 Bhp and thus could prove to be a little sluggish in the heavier Corolla Altis. Another engine option is of course the two liter D-4D turbodiesel engine that powers the European version of the Corolla Altis.

This two liter diesel engine is a realistic option for the Indian Corolla Altis as it already has been gracing the the Innova’s engine bay for quite a while now. The wait has now begun.
