Targeting younger buyers, Audi India lines up Q3 Crossover teaser on Facebook

With the 2012 Q3 crossover, that will debut in the next few weeks in the Indian market, Audi India seems to be quite clear as to whom it will target with this brand new product. Audi seems to be gunning for younger buyers, given that the Q3 Crossover will be positioned as the Teuton brand’s entry level product for the Indian market. The BMW X1 and the upcoming Mercedes Benz B-Class sports tourer is what the Audi Q3 will compete with and these products too represent the entry level models for their respective brands, much like the Q3 does for Audi.

So, it is quite clear that Audi India hopes to attract a new class of buyers to its fold, a class of buyers it will want to graduate over to more expensive products over the next few years. So, the 2013 Q3 Crossover is an extremely important product for the German luxury car maker. To keep a tight leash over costs and make the Q3 as affordable as possible, Audi will assemble the crossover at its Aurangabad plant through completely knocked down kits. This CKD assembly is expected to result in a base price of well under 30 lakhs for the Q3, making it Audi’s least priced product in India.

Both petrol and diesel engine variants will be available although Audi is said to be staying away from the stripped down variant route to ensure that the luxury quotient of the brand doesn’t take a beating in any way. A 2 liter TDI turbo diesel engine pushing out 170 Bhp-350 Nm and a 2 liter TFSI turbo petrol engine belting out 211 Bhp-350 Nm will be the two engines on offer. Transmission will be a 7 speed automatic DSG dual clutch gearbox. Audi will also offer the Quattro all wheel drive system on the 2012 Q3.
