2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV comes calling on the Indian Auto Expo!
Even as Toyota pulled the wraps of the facelifted Fortuner, General Motors showcased its Fortuner rival in the form of the 2012 Captiva SUV, a model that has gotten a comprehensive makeover to look much more bolder and aggressive than ever before. The 2012 Captiva features an all new front end, consonant with General Motors’ new design philosophy. The grille with the now de-facto bow tie is classic Chevrolet and the makeover extends to the rear of the SUV where the 2012 Captiva gets new tail lamps and styling. The 2012 Captiva continues in the vein of the current version by offering seating for seven adults.
The big change however is in the engine department, where the 2.2 Liter common rail turbo diesel engine gets additional power and torque. 185 Bhp of peak power and 424 Nm of peak torque is what the 2012 Captiva produces and full credit to General Motors for bringing the more powerful spec of this 2.2 Liter diesel engine to India even though a less powerful version is available for sale in other markets. This engine is mated to a six speed automatic transmission with all wheel drive as standard. That means, there is no cut price 4X2 version of the 2012 Captiva currently.
The facelift continues to the all black interiors of the 2012 Captiva where another GM signature touch, of that of the twin cockpit dashboard layout takes the pride of place. Cruise control, electric sun roof, automatic rain sensing wipers and an electric parking brake are a few of the many new features. A single LTZ variant of the new Captiva SUV will be launched in India. The price of the 2012 Captiva is set to increase over the current version due to the higher input costs as well as the facelift changes. By how much exactly the new Captiva gets dearer than the existing version remains to be seen.
