The Chevrolet Captiva SUV has been hotly anticipated for a launch later this year, but that isn’t to be as our friends from IndianAutosBlog report that the SUV will see a launch only in 2012. Meanwhile, General Motors India has already began testing the upcoming SUV in India, and the camouflaged test version of 2012 Captiva was caught testing at Gurgaon by NDTV Car”n”Bike fan, Parag Raheja.
We have already brought you a report about the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV here but then again, for the benefit of those who’re yet to read that, we’ll do a quick wrap up of what the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV is all about. The new Chevrolet Captiva SUV’s styling is quite aggressive compared to the current version and plenty of musculature all around endows the Captiva with a butch, don’t-mess-with-me look, that GM cars now sport across the model range.
The big selling point of the Chevrolet Captiva was the presence of the automatic transmission option, and that is something which the segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner SUV continues to lack. The newer model too will feature the automatic transmission option which will help harness all the power and torque that the 2.2 Liter VCDi common rail turbo diesel engine that is anticipated to make it into the new Captiva.
Talking of which, the 2.2 Liter Diesel engine is good for 163 Bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of torque, which is a jump from the current Captiva’s 150 Bhp and 320 Nm and ideally this is the engine General motors India will endow the 2012 Captiva SUV with as the model is a Completely Built Unit(CBU). The 2012 Captiva will also come with better interiors which includes the dual cockpit dashboard and will retain the seven seater configuration.
