2012 Chevrolet Sail Sedan caught testing, yet again!
Describing the Chevrolet Aveo sedan as long in the tooth would be an understatement of sorts. Way past its sell by date, this sedan has been trundling along gamely in India, crying out for a replacement even as the competition has well and truly moved on. The replacement though, will come later this year when General Motors India launches the Sail sedan in the Indian market. Our roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, spotted an on-test Chevrolet Sail Sedan on the outskirts of Pune, Talegaon to be precise, where General Motors also happens to have an engine manufacturing unit.
The Sail sedan has been developed by General Motors’ Chinese subsidiary and this car already sells in the Chinese market, albeit in a petrol-only engine option. For the Indian market though, General Motors India will use the national engine, er, the Fiat Multijet diesel engine, a powerplant to which General Motors has joint ownership rights. The 1.3 Liter diesel engine is expected to power the Sail sedan, along with a petrol engine. General Motors displayed the Sail hatchback at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo and judging from the car’s interiors and nifty packaging, expect plenty of space in the sedan as well.
With the Sail sedan, General Motors India will finally have a car in the C-segment sedan space with a diesel engine option, an option it sorely missed all these years with the Aveo, which comes with a CNG-petrol dual fuel option as a saving grace. With the multijet diesel engine under its hood, the Sail sedan will be the 3rd car in the 4 car segment, to be powered with this engine. Expect the Chevrolet Sail sedan to take on the Etios-Manza-Dzire brigade rather than the more premium C-segmenters. Pricing too, is expected to be in the Etios-Manza-Dzire range.
