2012 Chevrolet Trailblazer to be General Motors India’s new flagship SUV?

If a report emerging today is to be believed, the 2012 Chevrolet Trialblazer SUV might be launched in India. On where it will be positioned is something that is unclear at the moment and here’s exactly why. At the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, General motors India showcased the 2012 Captiva SUV, and announced plans of launching this model in India in 2012. The Captiva which features a 2.2 liter turbodiesel engine will be available only with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

The SUV will also be available only with a full time 4X4 function, making it GM India’s flagship model. Also, the new Captiva will be assembled in India through completely knocked down(CKD) kits rather than being a completely built unit like its previous variant. This change is expected to allow General Motors to price the 2012 Captiva quite competitively although the car is expected to be launched in a single, top end LTZ variant.

Now, coming to the Trailblazer, the scoop story by AutoCarIndia suggests a 17 lakh pricing, a price at which the Trailblazer could under cut the Captiva. The specs sheet though has different things to suggest. The 2012 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV is a much larger SUV than the Captiva, while also offering much more torque. The 2012 Trailblazer comes with a 2.8 Liter Duramax diesel engine outputting 180 Bhp of peak power and 480 Nm of peak torque.

The Trailblazer is a genuine seven seater with versatile space distribution options like split seats on the middle and the last row. So, we’re wondering whether the Trailblazer will be the new flagship SUV from the General Motors India stable, replacing the 2012 Captiva? Also, the Trialblazer is expected to be assembled in India through completely knocked down kits sourced from Thailand, where this SUV will be manufactured for exports across the globe.

While this will allow GM India to price it well, the question remains as to whether the price of the Trailblazer will be low enough for it to sit under the Captiva.

GM. just dump the captiva for some reason and get in the Trailblazer. It looks good and will give some serious competition …..
